During WWII Robins AFB was responsible for the depot level maintenance of all B-17s located in the Southeast.   This B-17 was delivered to the Army Air Forces in May, 1945.  In 1950 it was outfitted as a DB-17 drone controller and participated in "Operation Greenhouse".  Afterwards it was assigned to the Air Force Missile Test Center at Patrick AFB, FL. One of the last active military B-17s, it was flown to Grissom AFB for display in 1961.  The Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB, Georgia acquired the B-17 in 2015.
